Test Anxiety

Experiencing anxiety before and during tests is fairly common, as tests often serve as gateways to advance your education or professional aspirations. However, if test anxiety interferes with performance functioning, it can lead to frustration, confusion, and even feelings of defeat. Dr. Hoff works with adults to build skills to enhance mind-body connection to reduce the experience of test anxiety.

Common concerns for those presenting with test anxiety, include:

  • Difficulty sleeping for weeks leading up to the test

  • Stomach discomfort (e.g. nausea, decreased appetite, etc.)

  • Not completing tests in required time

  • Mind going “blank” or overthinking questions

  • Unhelpful self-talk, such as:

    • “I have to get this right.”

    • “I can’t mess this up.”

    • “How do I not know this?”

    • “I am never going to pass.”

Dr. Hoff combines cognitive behavioral therapy with skill building to help clients prepare for upcoming exams. Examples of treatment interventions include:
